Meta launches Muse AI agent in the U.S., bringing email and payments into the app
Meta has launched Muse, a new personal AI agent designed to go beyond answering questions and actually carry out tasks on a user's behalf. It is initially available in the United States through a dedicated app, the web and WhatsApp.
Muse can connect to services such as email, calendars, shopping and other apps. With the user's approval, it can send emails, book travel, fill out forms and make online purchases. For payments, Meta says Muse uses Stripe's Link, which generates a one-time card number so the user's actual card details are not exposed to the merchant or the AI agent.
A key difference from a traditional chatbot is that Muse can continue working in the background after the user closes the app. It can also remember preferences and goals to make personalized suggestions.
However, the launch raises important privacy and security questions, because the agent can access highly personal information across multiple connected services. Meta says users control which apps Muse can access and that sensitive actions, such as sending emails or making purchases, require approval.
