Xavi denies reports that Barcelona’s leadership is considering firing him

Xavi Hernández has refuted reports from Spanish media outlets suggesting that Barcelona's leadership is considering terminating his coaching position due to his comments about the club's financial constraints hindering its competitiveness against Real Madrid.

During a pregame news conference, Xavi stated, "The club has conveyed to me that I should remain calm and continue working with the same motivation and commitment. Nothing has changed." He addressed the speculation circulating in Spain's sports press, indicating that almost all questions he faced were related to this topic.

Media reports claimed that club president Joan Laporta was displeased with Xavi's remarks earlier in the week regarding the challenging economic situation and the club's ability to compete with top rivals. However, Xavi denied receiving any communication from the club regarding his position.

"I don’t know and I don’t care where that information is coming from. I have the support of the president and Deco, our sports director," Xavi emphasized.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Xavi's future, he recently reversed his decision to leave the club this summer after witnessing improvements in the team's performances. Barcelona's financial struggles, including significant debts and exceeding the salary cap set by the Spanish league, have led to challenges in player acquisitions.

Barcelona faces Rayo Vallecano with the aim of securing a second-placed finish in the domestic league and qualifying for the Spanish Super Cup.
