Meta has officially started rolling out paid subscription plans for its main apps—Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp—marking a major shift in how the company monetizes its platforms.
The new plans are typically branded as “Plus” subscriptions and are designed as optional upgrades, while the core apps remain free. According to multiple reports, the pricing is roughly:
- Instagram Plus: about $3.99/month
- Facebook Plus: about $3.99/month
- WhatsApp Plus: about $2.99/month
These subscriptions unlock extra features rather than basic access, such as:
- Advanced profile customization and themes
- Enhanced story tools (like extended stories or viewer insights)
- Better engagement stats and analytics
- Premium stickers, reactions, and personalization options
Alongside these, Meta is also reportedly testing AI-focused subscription tiers under a broader “Meta One” branding idea, which could bundle advanced AI tools and higher usage limits for Meta’s AI features.
Importantly, Meta says:
- The free versions will not disappear
- Subscriptions are optional upgrades
- Messaging and core social features remain free
In short, this move signals Meta’s strategy to reduce reliance on advertising revenue and grow paid services—especially as it invests heavily in AI infrastructure.
