DAZN and beIN Sports acquire Ligue 1 TV rights

DAZN and beIN Sports have secured the TV rights to broadcast French football’s top-flight Ligue 1 for at least the next two seasons, according to a source close to the negotiations. The deal, which is expected to be worth around 500 million euros ($544 million) annually for domestic rights, also includes international rights valued at an additional 160 million euros plus 40 million for the second-division Ligue 2.

The agreement, set to cover the period from 2024 to 2029, is still pending the finalization of several details, including an exit clause for both DAZN and France’s Professional Football League (LFP) after two years. The allocation of matches between the streaming platform and the Qatari channel is also under negotiation, with DAZN anticipated to broadcast eight out of nine matches per round, while beIN Sports would air the primetime game.

The overall framework of the deal was approved by the chairmen of Ligue 1 clubs during an LFP board meeting. Jean-Pierre Caillot, chairman of Reims and the Ligue 1 board, highlighted the urgency of the situation and the need for a viable solution for club exposure and cash flow. He noted that, despite not meeting the initial expectations of one billion euros for domestic rights, the agreement with DAZN and beIN Sports ensures that the future of Ligue 1 is secure, providing a total of 700 million euros per annum for the clubs to share.

The 2024-25 Ligue 1 season is scheduled to begin on August 16.
