Othmane Benzakour is a Moroccan film producer born on May 11, 1985, in Rabat. He is the founder and CEO of OStudio, and is renowned for his remarkable work in the film industry. Growing up in a family of doctors, Benzakour nurtured a passion for art and cinema, which led him to pursue a career in the film industry.
Benzakour attended French schools while growing up in Rabat. He graduated from Lycée Descartes in Rabat with a scientific baccalaureate in 2004. He then obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration from the International Institute of Higher Education in Morocco in 2011.
Benzakour's career in film began when he decided to pursue his final internship at a renowned production studio in Rabat. During his internship, he discovered that the production business could sustain his passion for film. Following his internship, he was hired as a general manager, but he was not pleased with the job. He asked the producers to transfer him to the production department as a production manager, as this role allowed him to monitor all the departments involved in production. As a result, he supervised the production of Moroccan and foreign short and feature films, television shows, and commercials.
In 2012, Benzakour founded his own production company, OStudio, where he produced and co-produced several short films such as "Cleopatra Ya Lalla," directed by Hicham Hajji, "L'Esclave du mal," directed by Mohsine Nadifi, and "Les Frères," directed by Youssef Britel.
In 2014, he ventured into documentary film production with "Mohammed VI, La dynamique du Maroc, avec ses Hommes et pour ses Hommes." The documentary was about the progress of Morocco in the human, social, cultural, and economic domains, and Benzakour set up a financing campaign and hired a team of professionals in the cinema industry to ensure the success of the project. He also provided cutting-edge technical equipment to ensure that the documentary was of high quality.
In parallel with his documentary film, Benzakour embarked on the production of a significant Moroccan historical film, "La Marche Verte," after reading the script written by Youssef Britel. After more than three years of hard work, collaboration with the writer and director Youssef Britel, and raising the necessary funds, he managed to produce the movie. The film required over seven weeks of shooting, including scenes in specially built studios with over 1,000 extras for some scenes.
Benzakour's experience in film, advertising, and digital media inspired him to produce web series in 2019. He produced his first web series called "VIP" for the telecommunications operator INWI, directed by Rabii Chajid. The series was an instant hit upon its release.
